The DOdo
The Dodo is UGC-based, so I had to source every one of these stories on social media, do outreach and get everything cleared before I started working on them. I scripted, edited, "scored," mixed, colored and made GFX for all my stories — for some of them I also researched and conducted interviews with my subjects. Below are some I especially enjoyed. Please do mind your feels, as you might well end up having all of them. Please note the views on these videos — it's extremely satisfying to reach that many people with your stories.
Cat climbs mountains with her dad
This was really one of my favorite stories to do, I found this account and it flew really under the radar, it was not branded as a pet account and the guy behind it wasn’t really trying to be a “pet influencer” or anything, he just lived a cool life and he loved his cat. Talking to him I got even more of a sense of that, and to some degree I feel bad if the recognition this video brought disrupted that for him for a little while, but I imagine that’s died down. I researched and conducted the interview and I still think about him and Millie a fair amount, one of those lives you sometimes imagine yourself having, I guess.
Rescued Possum Finds A Mom Who Does Everything For Him
I think a lot of people don't realize how gentle opossums are. I didn't, either, so researching this was really eye-opening for me. I love that Amos and his mom's schedules are off, it's really moving to me that she has this 3 hour window of opportunity in the middle of the night to actually spend time with him, and his lifespan is so short that it's like arduous yet tenable. It's heartbreaking and beautiful. I'm gonna chill on these blurbs! As you can tell, I got into these stories.
ABandoned pit bull gets adopted by a cat lady
Another fun one that sneaks up on you.
puppy brings chaos to retirement home for dogs
This has probably one of the most dastardly emotional switcheroos I've ever pulled. I think it's a lovely story. While making this site I wanted to follow up on Trigger's story to see how he's doing. I'm sorry to say the story reached its natural conclusion, but I'm proud I got to tell it.
Cat keeps knocking over his frog toy
Quick, funny montage kinda vid.
talented great dane loves skateboarding
I like the tricks montage in this. Atlas is a cool pup.
skunk with cup on head saved by makeshift animal control
This is an example of a personality-driven video, where the rescuers were endearing and funny and letting them comment on the situation was enough to keep viewers hooked.
Group of friends save bear with bucket on head
Fun, tense, the closest one of my videos got to an action scene.
carriage horse collapses after giving tourists rides
This ended up being a mini-doc, made in cooperation with an organization that was advocating for the banning of carriage horses in NYC. I'm proud of this for breaking down a complicated issue very efficiently and compellingly.
